Matriarch Coffee - Harborplace Cafe

Stopped with my friends on a day trip to Baltimore- lovely service, so polite and accommodating, and the muffins were amazing! We tried all the flavours (except blueberry) and would totally recommend!

Great little cozy coffee shop right next to the water. There is a lot of seating inside and good views of the harbor. This place is nice for remote working, or a simple morning breakfast. We had the bagels (everything bagels) which were very fresh and toasted! The coffee was good and sizing portions were nice, I recommend the iced “solstice” coffee! There is plenty of seating and the view is super nice. The only thing I would say is be aware that ordering takes a long while. They only had one person working and it easily took us 20 minutes to order and more time to wait on our food and coffees. They had a nice selection of hot cocoa, tea, hot and iced coffee, and bagels. The prices were quite high for the coffee (10) so make sure it’s in your budget!

The Matriarch, located right by the Inner Harbor, is a stylish spot that blends cozy and chic. The interior has a darker color palette with black paint, but thanks to plenty of natural light from the large windows, it still feels open and welcoming. There are two distinct seating sections, giving you options whether you’re looking to see out into the harbor more closely with one other person or have larger table options more inside. The staff was friendly, and the drink menu is extensive—you can see the full list in the photo I’ve attached. I went with the Iced Strawberry Blush Matcha from their Spring Awakening seasonal section. At 8.50 for a 20 oz drink, it included green matcha, oat milk, strawberry sauce, and honey—a fair price considering oat milk was already included. The matcha was smooth and well-balanced, and I was especially impressed by the strawberry syrup, which tasted more natural and less artificial than most. I didn’t try any food this time, but based on this first experience, I’d definitely come back to try another drink. If you’re looking for a well-crafted beverage near the harbor in a chill, modern space, The Matriarch is worth a stop.

Got two delicious iced coffees—the Once in a Blue and Raspberry Cloud. They were both the best coffee drinks I think I’ve ever had. And the Once in a Blue was absolutely GORGEOUS. Staff was super friendly, and next time I’m in Baltimore I will absolutely be hitting this place. Can not recommend enough!

The reviews are TRUE — this place is AMAZING! After circling a million times to find it and find parking, I was delighted to walk in. The vibe is everything, it opens on the water. The views are so dope. The staff is great. My mocha latte was delicious — one of the best ones I’ve had in Baltimore. Just be prepared to spend some time finding it; it’s not necessarily visible from the street. I’ll most certainly be back! I can’t wait to try some more coffee beans!

Matriarch coffee has a beautiful interior with lots of natural light because of the location. I tried the signature option of the Strawberry Sky Mocha which was delightful and made me reconsider strawberry as a pairing with coffee drinks. We also tried the sagamore whiskey cold brew which had a wonderful aroma and the vanilla bean chocolate chip cookie was also good!
